If you’re reading this, chances are, you’re someone who doesn’t fit neatly into one box. You have many passions, varied interests, and a love for documenting and storytelling.

If so, welcome! You’re in the right place. Story Weavers Society is my dream community for creatives just like you (and me) — those who believe that life’s richest stories come from weaving together diverse threads of passions and inspiration.

First, a Little Bit About Me

My name is Shai and I currently work as a Learning and Teaching Innovations Manager at an educational technology company in Australia. I also started pursuing a PhD focused on the convergence of writing and technology in education, particularly through XR (Extended Reality) and AI (Artificial Intelligence). A mouthful, I know.

In my personal life, I find joy in journalling, photography, travel, poetry, art, and dance, among many other interests.

This phase of my career is the latest in a series of diverse professional experiences. I’ve worked as a classroom teacher and STEM/technologies coordinator, founded and led a digital media business with clients like Microsoft, served as Communications and Community Manager for a non-profit technology organisation, and co-founded a blogging network that secured multi-million dollar funding. My journey also includes practising in psychology.

I hold two Master’s degrees—one in Teaching and another in Psychology—and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Originally from Manila, I’ve lived in Los Angeles, CA, and Singapore before making Australia my home.

Throughout my career, I’ve consistently nurtured my creative passions. I’ve published books (traditional and self-pub), contributed to magazines and online media, won poetry awards, exhibited and sold artwork, taught art and photography, blogged for both pleasure and profit, and have been an avid journaller and photographer.

Why I Started The Story Weavers Society

Many years ago, I had a colleague who once exclaimed, “I don’t believe that anyone can really be passionate about many things. Two or three, maybe. Any more than that, you’re fooling yourself.”

I respectfully disagreed. I’m pretty sure Leonardo Da Vinci, Ben Franklin, Maya Angelou, Sir Richard Branson, and countless others would too.

Story Weavers Society was born from a desire to celebrate and support multi-passionate individuals. In a world that often tells us to focus on just one thing, this community believes in embracing all of our passions. Whether you’re a writer, artist, musician, photographer, content creator, or someone who dabbles in everything, your unique blend of interests is what makes you extraordinary.

The Multi-passionate Journal here on Substack will be all about exploring the intersections of creativity, learning, and storytelling. I believe that each of your passions adds a new layer to your story, and that every story is worth telling.

What You Can Expect

To be honest, I’ll be learning as I go too. So, I’m not 100% sure where this is going. Partly because I want it to be driven by the small but growing community that I hope we’ll have here.

So, while we figure it all out together, these are some things I’m hoping to start sharing:

• Creative Insights: Expect plenty of tips, techniques, and insights on how to blend your passions into a cohesive and fulfilling life, as well as features and reviews of interesting books, gadgets, and tools for documenting your passions and stories. From practical advice to reflective essays, I aim to provide content that resonates with where you are right now.

• Inspiring Stories: We’ll be sharing stories of multi-passionate creatives who have successfully woven their diverse interests into meaningful lives and careers. These stories are here to inspire you, challenge you, and remind you that you’re not alone on this journey.

• Community Connection: One of the most exciting aspects of starting Story Weavers Society is the hope that we can build a community of multi-passionate creatives. I look forward to sharing each others’ stories and finding support as we navigate our multi-passionate journeys.
